Today is our day, ladies! Happy International Women’s Day! Today we honor women around the world. Today is a day to celebrate how far we’ve come, honor where we are at, and fight for a better future.
On International Women’s Day, I usually spotlight remarkable trailblazing women, but today I had something different planned. I was going to video interview my husband’s 93 year old grandmother, who is as sharp as a switchblade, lives ALONE, and is rockin’ the 90′s with wisdom, style and grace. I wanted to ask her the secret to longevity, how you overcome adversity and more. She told me this moring that she is not feeling up to it, so it didn’t happen.
So on this incredible day, I give you instead, some great reminders of why it’s a gift to be a woman…

a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone
else in her family…
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ….
eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems, and a
recipe for a meal that will make her guests feel honored…
A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ….
a feeling of control over her destiny…

how to fall in love without losing herself..

how to quit a job,
break up with a lover,
and confront a friend without ruining the friendship…

when to try harder… and when to walk away…

that she can’t change the length of her calves,
the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents…

or a charming inn in the woods…
when her soul needs soothing…

WOMEN
Women have strengths that amaze men. They carry children, they carry hardships, they carry burdens but they hold happiness, love and joy. They smile when they want to scream. They sing when they want to cry. They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in. They stand up for injustice. They don’t take “no” for an answer when they believe there is a better solution. They go without new shoes so their children can have them. They go to the doctor with a frightened friend. They love unconditionally. They cry when their children excel, and cheer when their friends get awards. They are happy when they hear about a birth or a new marriage.
Their hearts break when a friend dies. They have sorrow at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left. They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart. Women come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes. They’ll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you. The heart of a woman is what makes the world spin! Women do more than just give birth. They bring joy and hope. They give compassion and ideals. They give moral support to their family and friends. Women have a lot to say and a lot to give.

The Woman in the Glass
When you get what you want as your struggle for self
And the world makes you queen for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that woman has to say.
For it isn’t your father or mother or husband
Who’s judgement upon you must pass;
The person whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass.
She’s the person to please, never mind all the rest,
For she’s with you clear up to the end.
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the woman in the glass if your friend.
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of life,
And get pats on your back as you pass.
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you’ve cheated the woman in the glass.
